GRAFFITI

Graffiti is one of those art forms, I admire, but, never got the chance to really explore like I wanted to. I did get a chance around '96 - '98, but, I didn't keep up with it. My issue was always can control, which, if I would've practiced more, I'm sure I could have mastered to a certain degree. I grew up on hip hop, so, graffiti was always a close proximity. I was never about the whole "getting up", portion of graffiti. I really was more amazed by the large pieces that I had seen. The colors, characters, and lettering, all came together to create one massive piece. The fact that it was so toweringly large, spread out over a wall or across a train, left me speechless. I always envisioned myself, standing in front of a wall, and covering it with a vision I had seen in my mind. As I got older, I sort of abandoned the notion, that one day I would become a graffiti artist. I say sort of, cuz, one day....I might just pick up a can and give it a shot, again. They say its never too late, to pick up something, and learn it. I never forget about graffiti, the style and attitude, is still apparent in my artwork now, so there's always a chance.

It's just amazing when you see the photos of the artwork itself, let alone, watching it in progress as its being done layer by layer. I liked the European progressiveness at the time, where, it was undetectable that it was even a name, and just looked like three dimensional shapes. I don't like the trend of street art these days tho. I think it makes a mockery of graffiti, honestly. I like some street art, don't get me wrong, but, it seems to have picked up steam as a trend for artists to gain "street cred", as it were. To, this day, my loyalty remains to graffiti, and not street art. Street art is like the abstract of the graffiti world. So, of course I shoot deuces at the idea, and should one day, I have enough time to pick up a new craft....it'll be graffiti.
