THAT'S MIGHTY EXCESSIVE
What is the point of living in excess? If you can't take it with you, then what is the point? When does a person reach a limit of, enough? How does one, come to the understanding of enough is enough? I imagine that some people never have this epiphany and their hunger knows no bounds. I've known people to have "eyes bigger than their stomach", and pile food on their plate. It's this type of mentality that I question. Is this learned behavior, or, is this a byproduct of conditioning? We have the desire to fill needs, but, what is it that makes us thirst for excess?
They say that the lack of certain things, make us crave for them even more, and upon receipt, we tend to hoard. However, it doesn't seem to be the right response, to the absence of something. Yet, we do this habitually; we eat excessively, drink excessively, spend excessively, when we know good and well, that moderation is the key to life. I'm not sure if moderation would be possible in an age where excess is so common place. One of the major drawbacks of excess is waste, and we waste excessively as well. We are living in a day and age, where excess is not only normal, but encouraged, to spurn the capitalist system we live by. It is expected amongst the rich, but, seems to even plague the poor, just the same. It seems ridiculous nonetheless, because, well, because its excessive. History has shown that when a society tends to live excessive, then that particular society will eventually meet it's demise. Decadence leads to a large disparity between those who have the ability to live in excess, and those who are barely able to survive.
While the rich are driven by greed, or legacy (they will say), it has been proven time and time again, that the heirs to that fortune never know the value of hard werk. Yet, the poor are driven by the lack of any fortune, and hoard, anything that they can get in excess. Every man should be allowed to create their own fortunes, with a little help, but, once again not excessive. Excessive, protection or coddling, leads to weakness, and this is why poor people can respond well to adversity, as opposed to rich people. Poor people can be envious and, that can lead to a mentality of, "by any means" survival, and excessive exposure to this mentality can cause a poor person to do things that endanger their life and future. Poor people are under excessive pressure, rich are under pressure as well, but, not to the extent as a poor person.
The point I'm making, is that, much like when we eat, there is a limit that let's our mind know, we are full. There are some, that push beyond this limit. Yes, some eat steaks and fine wine, while the other, eats candy bars and soda, but, they both do it excessively. However, both of them can become obese, which can lead to a whole host of health problems. The example can be applied to a variety of issues, but, the truth remains that our lust for excess is what deteriorates us all, both within ourselves and between each other. - 925
