YESTERDAY'S RAIN...

It rained pretty bad yesterday, and by that afternoon, it had cleared up and the sun came out shining fairly bright. It has been like this here in Dallas, TX since I can remember. The weather has gotten a bit worse as I've gotten older, but the randomness of it still remains. Here, we don't give up officially on winter, until the end of March. Whenever it rains, I'm reminded of when I was little, my mom, would open the windows and doors and we would listen to the rain as the breeze would blow thru. Then, it reminds me of when my Dad would play records in the house. Also, it reminds me of Saturday mornings, and how we spent our day doing chores, and various duties. Then, I begin to cycle thru my entire childhood, or at least the parts that stick out at the time. Oh snap, back to the purpose of this blog.

Yesterday, was International Women's Day, as well. First off, I didn't know about the "holiday", and honestly, I didn't feel the necessity to celebrate it either. Mainly, because, we celebrate so many bogus holidays now, that it has become a platform for temporary recognition, that actually doesn't remain with our attention span long enough to be significant anyway. It's sort of pointless, because we only cherish whatever cause for that particular day, and then the memory fades. For instance, if there were a International Pizza Day (which, there might actually be), would you celebrate it? How would celebrate it? Would you go out and get pizza that day? However, pizza is one of those all the time things. Every time you have pizza really, its a celebration. Pizza has become such a staple in our culture, that it doesn't need a specific day to be celebrated, it is almost worshipped, on a daily basis. This idea of celebrating, a particular group or idea, on a certain day out of the calendar is intended to draw attention to something usually overlooked. Like Grandparents Day, Siblings' Day, or Pancake Day, it separates these from the rest to call attention to something that should be respected anyway.

So, with something like International Women's Day, I fail to see the point honestly. Don't misread, what I'm saying please, because I'm not saying Women don't deserve to be revered. On the contrary, women should be held in very high regard. Women have made amazing advancements in society, on every avenue, even the ones you are unaware of. The amount of struggle that women have encountered throughout history, is appalling. Women, are so vital to our species. Without women, mankind would've died out long ago, and no, I'm not simply referring to their ability to have babies, but, their difference has caused men to rethink their approach on many things as well. A quick, look thru a history book, or internet search will quickly reveal, a long contribution to humanity on every front. So, I am in no way, saying that women don't deserve their appreciation. My mom, is one of my biggest inspirations, and she is a woman, who has struggled, so she needs to be honored, because as a woman it is a bit harder.

However, women, should be honored and cherished every day tho, and not on one day singled out for them. They should be appreciated for their differences, and what they have to offer.

The beauty, the ability, the strength, the changes, the emotion, all of it, is unique to women alone, and pile on top of that all of their accomplishments and contributions, and you have a recipe for greatness. I'm not even including the sexuality, both soft or muscular. Its just a long list. It should always be on the mind, that a woman is to be respected and honored, at all times. I understand, that by setting aside this day, you are calling attention where it was otherwise, ignored. However, by doing this, we are separating women from humanity to give them a special....day. That's it? They are apart of humanity and should be celebrated every day. They are very special, but, they are the counterpart to males, and a part of humanity. By separating, you are saying one is more special than the other, and creating a sense of division. Furthermore, you are reducing society's attention span to the subject of women, down into one day.

If you want to increase the focus on women, teach more about them, give more examples of them, and no not just the celebrities, but, the astronauts, lawyers, inventors, etc. Otherwise, its a brief topic that we lose interest in, when our timeline changes, and the calendar shifts to the next day. All women, all the time.    -  925
