WHAT'S YOUR DIAGNOSIS?

I HAVE A SORT OF DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE OF PSYCHIATRY AS IT PERTAINS TO MENTAL HEALTH IN INDIVIDUALS.  SOME MAY REFER TO IT, AS COUNSELING, BUT THE ROOT OF PSYCHIATRY IS STILL PRESENT.  GROWING UP, WE HAVE PEOPLE WE CAN TALK TO ABOUT OUR ISSUES, PARENTS, FRIENDS, OTHER ADULTS, TEACHERS, PETS, AND EVEN CLERGY.  ALL OF THESE PEOPLE CAN BE HELPFUL, AND ALSO HURTFUL, IN ASSISTING WITH THE VARIOUS ISSUES THAT PLAGUE US IN EARLY LIFE.  INITIALLY, WE ARE INCLINED TO GO TO OUR PARENTS, CONSIDERING THEY ARE THE ONES WHO BIRTHED US AND TAKE CARE OF US.  HOWEVER, PARENTS, HAVE THEIR OWN SET OF ISSUES TO DEAL WITH.  MANY TIMES, WE LOOK BACK, AND FAIL TO REALIZE THAT OUR PARENTS HAD NO CLUE WHAT THEY WERE DOING WITH THEIR OWN LIVES, LET ALONE OURS.  SO, IN THE BEGINNING THE FIRST PEOPLE TO LET YOU DOWN OR HURT YOU, ARE YOUR PARENTS.  FOR MANY, THIS IS VERY HARD TO GET OVER AND CAN LAST A LIFETIME.

SECOND, IN LINE, ARE USUALLY RELATIVES, TEACHERS, AND CLERGY.  OTHER RELATIVES, ARE LIKE PARENTS, BUT ALSO KNOW THE PARENTS THEMSELVES, AND HAVE THEIR OWN VIEWPOINT.  THESE CAN BE HELPFUL, IF THEY CHOOSE TO RESIST THEIR OWN PERSONAL FEELINGS TO GET INVOLVED IN WHATEVER COUNSEL THEY OFFER.  CLERGY, CAN EASILY FUCK SOMEBODY'S HEAD UP QUICK.  I DON'T THINK I NEED TO ELABORATE ON THIS TOO MUCH FURTHER.  LASTLY, IT BECOMES FRIENDS.  THIS IS WHERE WE GET MAJORITY OF OUR MENTAL HELP, FROM PEOPLE USUALLY OUR SAME AGE, GOING THRU THE SAME THINGS WE ARE AND HAVE NO CLUE, LIKE WE HAVE NO CLUE.  WE USUALLY USE THEM AS A SOUNDING BOARD, FOR THE IDEAS WE HAVE ON HOW TO DEAL WITH OUR OWN PERSONAL SHIT.  HOWEVER, AS WE ALL KNOW, FRIENDS COME AND GO.  USUALLY WE GROW OUT OF FRIENDS, OR THINGS END IN A DRAMATIC BLOW UP.  TIME IS ALSO AN ISSUE.  WHICH LEAVES THE FINAL SOURCE OF MENTAL COUNSELING, PETS.  THE ONLY ISSUE WITH PETS, IS THAT THEY DO NOT TALK BACK.  IN MANY CASES, THIS IS QUITE CLOSE TO PERFECT, BECAUSE ALOT OF TIMES, ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS HEAR YOURSELF EXPLAIN YOURSELF TO YOURSELF, AND YOU GET A BETTER SENSE OF YOURSELF.  MAKE SENSE?

I ALWAYS ADVOCATE TALKING TO ONESELF.  I EVEN ADVOCATE ANSWERING ONESELF.  PLAYING OUT SCENARIOS, AND HAVING CONVERSATIONS WITH ONESELF IS A GREAT WAY TO REACH AN ANSWER TO AN ISSUE THAT IS PERMEATING THE MIND.  HOWEVER, MOST PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THIS METHOD, OR THE PET METHOD, AND INSTEAD RESORT TO PSYCHIATRY.  WHETHER IT IS PROFESSIONALLY, OR SELF DIAGNOSIS, SO MANY PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO ACCEPT THAT THERE IS SOMETHING TRULY WRONG WITH THEM, AND WANT THAT ANSWER, BECAUSE DEEP DOWN THEY KNOW, SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT.  THE PROBLEM THEN, IS, ONCE PEOPLE GET THE DIAGNOSIS THEY ARE LOOKING FOR, THEY FEEL JUSTIFIED.  SORT OF THE WAY, IF YOU'VE BEEN HAVING SOME SORT OF REACTION TO SOMETHING IN THE AIR, AND POST VISITATION TO THE DOCTOR, YOU DISCOVER YOU'RE ALLERGIC TO POLLEN IN THE AIR.  THIS PINPOINTS THE PROBLEM, BUT, DOES NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE, BECAUSE YOU STILL HAVE TO GO TO PHARMACY AND GET MEDICINE TO BATTLE YOUR ALLERGY.  BEYOND THAT, THERE ARE OTHER THINGS YOU CAN DO TO BATTLE YOUR POLLEN ALLERGY, IF YOU ARE SO INCLINED TO FIND OUT AND TAKE PROACTIVE ACTION. 

THIS, IS WHERE, I BELIEVE, SOME PEOPLE MAKE MAJOR MISTAKES IN THEIR DEVELOPMENT AS A BETTER HUMAN BEING.  I'M NOT SAYING THAT PSYCHIATRY OR COUNSELING IS USELESS, BECAUSE IT ISN'T.  MANY PEOPLE FIND SOLACE, AND HELP THRU THESE METHODS.  I'VE KNOWN PEOPLE TO COME OUT OK, AFTER COUNSELING.  TO ME, THE MAIN DRAWBACK, IS WHEN PEOPLE DISCOVER THEY HAVE A MENTAL OR PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUE, AND IT IS CONFIRMED BY THAT PARTICULAR MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL, THE JUSTIFICATION PROCESS EXEMPLIFIES THEIR FEELING OF BEING DAMAGED.  IT'S GOOD TO IDENTIFY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, THIS IS CRUCIAL TO BECOMING A BETTER PERSON.  HOWEVER, ONCE PEOPLE DISCOVER THEIR FLAW, IT BECOMES THEIR CRUTCH OR THEIR EXCUSE.  THIS HALTS THE PROGRESSION OF HEALING THE MIND.  ESPECIALLY, WHEN YOU THROW INTO THE MIX, PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION.  SOME PEOPLE FALL INTO THE HABIT OF RETURNING TO THE DIAGNOSIS, AS A WAY TO AVOID PROGRESS.  WHICH LIKE I SAID, IS ONLY HALF THE BATTLE.

I SEE THIS AS WEAK SOMETIMES.  NOW, THERE ARE MAJOR CHEMICAL IMBALANCES AND SIGNIFICANT DEFICIENCIES THAT CAN ONLY BE CURED BY MEDICATION, AND ACTUAL MEDICAL PROCEDURES.  I AM NOT, REFERRING TO THESE OCCURRENCES, BECAUSE THESE DIAGNOSIS' AND PROCEDURES CAN ONLY BE SOLVED IN THIS WAY.  HOWEVER, WHAT I AM SPEAKING ON, ARE THOSE WITH SIMPLISTIC DAY TO DAY PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES AND EMOTIONALLY DRIVEN PROBLEMS.  THESE DON'T REQUIRE MAJOR MEDICAL ATTENTION MOST TIMES.  PEOPLE WILL RECEIVE A DIAGNOSIS, OR EVEN WORSE SELF DIAGNOSE, AND THIS BECOMES THE CRUTCH ON WHICH THEY LIVE.  THEY RUIN RELATIONSHIPS, THEY HAVE "BREAKDOWNS", THEY LOSE JOBS, ALL DUE TO THIS PARTICULAR MENTAL "PROBLEM".  LIKEWISE, WHEN THERE IS A PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION THAT HAS BEEN OFFERED, AS A QUICK WAY TO REMEDY THE ISSUE, THE ACTUAL WORK OF TRYING TO GET BETTER IS SOMEHOW LOST.  THE DRUG MAY HAVE SIDE EFFECTS, THAT LEAD TO OTHER ISSUES, OR IT SIMPLY NUMBS THE PERSON OUT, SO THAT THEY MAY "DEAL", WITH THEIR LIFE.

I FEEL THAT AT TIMES, WE ARE INADVERTENTLY ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO BE WEAK.  BY ALLOWING PEOPLE TO BE EMOTIONAL BASKET CASES, WE ARE CODDLING THOSE WHO REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM, AND MAKE THE VERY NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS TO MAKE THEMSELVES BETTER.  IN SOME CASES, YES, MEDICATION AND COUNSELING HELPS BUT YOU STILL HAVE WORK TO DO.  YOU YOURSELF HAVE TO TRY TO MAKE YOURSELF BETTER.  OTHERWISE, YOU ARE BASICALLY CURLING UP IN A BLANKET OF WEAKNESS, TO FEEL IMPORTANT, SPECIAL, OR EVEN DAMAGED.  YOU MUST MAKE THE NEXT STEP AND PROGRESS, YOURSELF.  YOU DON'T ALWAYS NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE.  YOU DON'T ALWAYS NEED A DRUG.  YOU DON'T ALWAYS NEED TO BE TOLD, THAT THINGS WILL BE BETTER.  SOMETIMES, ALL YOU NEED IS TO LOOK DEEP WITHIN, AND SEE YOURSELF FOR WHO YOU ARE.  BE VERY REALISTIC, UP FRONT, AND HONEST WITH YOURSELF, AND WHITTLE AWAY AT THE LIES YOU'VE BEEN TELLING YOURSELF, AND LOOK AT WHAT YOU CAN DO TO MAKE YOURSELF THE BEST POSSIBLE HUMAN BEING YOU CAN BE.

I'M NOT SAYING THAT THESE DIAGNOSIS, AREN'T JUSTIFIED OR REAL, BUT, YOU HAVE JUST AS MUCH POWER OVER YOURSELF, AS YOU LET THESE CONDITIONS HAVE POWER OVER YOU.  SURE THE HOLE LOOKS DEEP WHEN YOU'RE IN IT, BUT THEN YOU LEARN TO CLIMB OUT OF IT.  ANYONE, CAN MAKE THE TURNAROUND, BUT YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO DO THE WORK.  THAT'S WHY SUICIDE IS SO SAD, BECAUSE, THESE PEOPLE SIMPLY SEE NO WAY TO CONTINUE.  HOWEVER, THERE IS A CERTAIN LEVEL OF BRAVERY IN SUICIDE BECAUSE THEY ARE AT LEAST, ATTEMPTING TO END THEIR SUFFERING.  I'M NOT ADVOCATING SUICIDE, I DON'T AGREE WITH IT EITHER.  I AM SIMPLY REFERRING TO THE ACT ITSELF.   THOSE WHO LIVE DAY TO DAY WITH THE EXCUSES FOR WHY THEY ARE, THE WAY THEY ARE, ARE IN A BIGGER HELL THAN ANYONE COULD EVER IMAGINE, BECAUSE, THEY WON'T TRY OR GIVE UP TOO EASILY.  THE WORLD IS A TOUGH PLACE, JUST TO SURVIVE IN, PERIOD.  THE FACT THAT YOU ARE ALIVE, OR EXIST, IS A STATISTICAL PHENOMENON, AND YET YOU CAN'T MOVE FORWARD IN LIFE BECAUSE OF A SMALL WAY OF THINKING THAT HAS DEBILITATED YOU.  WHICH BASICALLY MAKES, YOUR WORST ENEMY, YOU.  THIS CAN CHANGE, YOU JUST HAVE TO BE WILLING TO CHANGE IT, AND NOT LET YOUR DIAGNOSIS DEFINE YOU.      -  925
